Designing and Growing a Cut-Flower Garden

In this class we will learn about the process of planning, designing and planting your cut flower garden in the space that you have. We will discuss site selection, different groups of cut flowers, varietal considerations as well as growing conditions for each. Classes will involve walking around the farm and looking at different styles of growing and some hands-on work building one of our new perennial garden beds. Participants will leave with a flower garden starter kit including plants and seeds.

Garden Based Floral Design

In this class Angie will discuss her approach to garden based floral design. We will have an extensive farm tour followed by a group gathering mission to cut all of the materials for our arrangements. She will then demonstrate her process in designing two different styles of arrangements (a low centerpiece and a large focal arrangement). Lastly participants will be assisted in building two of their own arrangements which they can take home with them.

Floral Installations- Arches, Hanging Installations, and Ground Arches

This half-day advanced floral design class will discuss the mechanics of floral installations, including site considerations, tools, tips, and techniques. We will spend time gathering materials on the farm and then work to build all three kinds of installations together. Refreshments will be provided.

Wreath Making

In this class we will learn how to make our own wreaths from materials that we gather in the gardens. We will make two different kinds of bases, grapevine and straw and discuss different styles of wreath making. After gathering materials, we will spend some hours crafting our own wreaths. All materials will be supplied and participants will go home with two or more wreaths. Refreshments included.

Making Your Holiday Centerpieces and Decor

There’s nothing like a gorgeous centerpiece to really bring your holiday table to the next level. In this half day class we will spend time discussing different styles of centerpieces and design considerations, appropriate materials and containers. We then will head out and gather materials and then make our own centerpieces to take home. This will be a festive, fun class with music and merriment.

Botany for Gardeners

In this half-day workshop, we will dive into the basics of plant classification of some of our most commonly used garden plants. With easy to use identification techniques, we will help you understand how to quickly determine plant families. We will break down flower shapes, leaf alignment, and basic botanical terminology. At the end of class we will work on creating beautiful pressed plants for you to take home. Helpful texts to have for this class include Botany for Gardeners by Brian Capon and Botany in a Day by Thomas L Elpel.
