Our Mission

Hawk and Lily is an educational farm and garden project aimed to empower and educate people to become more connected to the land and each other.

The Farm

The farm is nestled in the folds of the Sierra Nevada foothills just outside of Nevada City and only minutes from the Yuba River. Though we specialize in growing cut flowers, we are diversifying the farm to include more vegetables, fruits, herbs, and nursery stock in order to provide a wide range of opportunities for our students.  We will be inviting other local artists and tradespeople to share their gifts with the project as well.  In addition to offering a wide range of farm-based classes this year, we will be running our teen internship program during the month of July.

Lead Farmer and Teacher

Angie Tomey

Angie Tomey is the lead farmer and teacher at Hawk and Lily, bringing over 20 years of experience in growing vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees. With a background in Botany and Ecology, Angie has cultivated a deep connection to nature and a keen awareness of her natural surroundings.

Her farming journey began in 2000 as an apprentice at the renowned UC Santa Cruz Farm and Garden Program. Since then, she has worked on various farms across California before settling in Nevada City to join Mountain Bounty Farm. Eventually, she launched her own business, Little Boy Flowers, where her distinctive, design-centered approach to flower farming quickly became her signature within the industry.

Angie is not only a farmer but also a mother, cook, artist, activist, adventurer, yogi, teacher, and seeker—bringing creativity, passion, and purpose into everything she does.
